The westernmost structure in Istria (Croatia) is the lighthouse in Savudrija. That is the largest lighthouse in Istria, 36 m high, built in 1818. godine

Name Istria according to some sources potjeèe Histri from the Illyrian tribe that lived in the area. Roman Illyrians described as a notorious pirate who could take advantage of the fact that due to the numerous shallow Istrian coast very dangerous for navigation. Istria was conquered by the Romans after two military campaigns - 177 BC
